A new creative lead for Condé Nast Germany’s Content division

The Client
Condé Nast is a leading media company, renowned for producing high-quality content for some of the world’s most influential audiences. Reaching over 100 million consumers globally through its print, digital, and video brands, the portfolio includes iconic brands such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour, GQ, and Architectural Digest. In 2011, Condé Nast Entertainment was launched to further develop film, television, and premium digital video content.

The Challenge
With the German market demonstrating a growing appetite for content, Condé Nast sought a creative and strategic leader to drive the growth of their digital video business in the region. The task was to appoint a Head of Video, based in Munich, to work closely with local editorial and commercial leads to establish, oversee, and scale a digital video operation focused on local-language content and new IP development. The role had the added ambition of creating content that could resonate with global audiences.

Our Approach
Munich, unlike the more significant media hubs Berlin or Hamburg, has fewer established media giants, meaning we had to broaden the reach of our search, to look across Germany and Europe. The individual needed to be deeply connected to German culture and possess a unique blend of creativity, strategic insight, and commercial acumen. Experience working in a matrixed organisation was essential, as was the ability to be hands-on in leading a small but growing team. We targeted professionals from media giants like Red Bull and Vice, as well as looking at talent from German broadcasters, publishers, and agencies. From a longlist of twelve candidates, Condé Nast shortlisted five, bringing three to the final interview stage.

The Result
Thrive successfully placed a senior production lead with an extensive track record in multi-award-winning video production. The successful candidate had previously served as Senior Director of Global Production Management at Vice, where they were responsible for global production operations and driving commercial sales. With their background in both creative and production, the role aligned perfectly with their expertise, positioning them to lead Condé Nast Germany’s video output to new heights.

We're thrilled to have found the perfect candidate - a very big thank you to the Thrive team for all the great work in getting us to this exciting position - the whole process has been incredibly efficient and effective. The careful vetting, researching and shortlisting Alice did, enabled us to meet a broad set of high calibre candidates and really get to the bottom of who we really needed for the role. We are very confident in our decision, and that's down to a solid search, so well done! So thrilled to have been able to work with you on this search.”
